I just got this book yesterday from my local library, and so far I can’t put it down. It came out a few years ago, I think, but I never got around to reading it, cause I didn’t want to buy it. Thank God for the library!

Stallone’s movies were THE films to see when I was a kid/teenager. The Rockys, the Rambos, Star Wars, Superman, and Indiana Jones… those were the films of my generation. Oh, and Back to the Future and Karate Kid, I guess. The first one. But, I digress….

This book has a lot of valuable insight into Stallone’s training methods during all those movies I loved. And it’s surpisingly funny in parts. He has a really self deprecating sense of humor that I didn’t expect. I am not to the work out plan sections yet, but they don’t look like anything new. Same old exercises.

A really interesting thing about the book is that it’s fun to compare Sly’s earliest photos, when he didn’t know how to train or eat correctly, to the uber-fit Rocky 3 days, to his current unbelievable condition in his early to mid 60s. Again, I’m not done with it yet, so maybe I’m just not to that point, but so far he hasn’t said anything in this book about being arrested in Australia for bringing Human Growth Hormone (HGH) into the country last year. Somehow I don’t think he will, either.

Regardless, for anybody who idolized Stallone like I did as a kid, and for anybody who wants to start getting into shape, I think this is a great book.
